Biography

Vishal Krishna is an Indian classical Kathak dancer belonging to the illustrious Banaras gharana lineage of Acharya Sukhdev Maharaj. A member of the 11th generation of dancers in his family, Vishal Krishna was introduced to Kathak at the age of three by his father, Pt. Mohan Krishna. His formal training continued under the guidance of his grandmother, the legendary Kathak exponent Padmashri Sitara Devi, where rigorous discipline and long hours of practice formed the foundation of his dance education. He is also the nephew of the celebrated Kathak maestro Natraj Pt. Gopi Krishna.

Vishal Krishna’s dance reflects key elements of the Banaras style, including dynamic footwork, controlled pirouettes, strong rhythmic command, and expressive abhinaya. His repertoire often includes traditional compositions such as Shiv Vandana and other classical presentations that highlight the gharana’s aesthetic. Observers note the combination of grace and energetic movement in his stage presence.

Alongside performing, Vishal Krishna is active as a teacher and choreographer, working with students and productions in India and internationally. Through teaching and performance, he continues the artistic legacy of his family while presenting Kathak to contemporary audiences.
