Vidhya Subramanian is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher of the Vazhuvoor style. Founder of Lasya Dance Company, she performs globally and mentors students.

Biography

Vidhya Subramanian is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher associated with the Vazhuvoor style. Born in Chennai, she began her training at a young age under Guru S. K. Rajarathnam and later studied abhinaya with Padmabhushan Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan. She presented her arangetram in 1984 and has since performed across India and internationally.

In 1990, she moved to the United States and established the Lasya Dance Company in California, where she continues her work as an artistic director and mentor. Her practice includes solo performances, ensemble productions, and training students in Bharatanatyam.

As a choreographer, Vidhya Subramanian has created works that engage with cultural and social themes, including gender and identity. She holds a master's degree in theatre arts and has also contributed to theatre and film projects.

Her work has received recognition through awards such as the Nrithya Choodamani from Krishna Gana Sabha, Nadanamamani from Karthik Fine Arts, and Yuva Kala Bharati from Bharat Kalachar. She is also associated with performances and presentations in international contexts.
