Tejas Tope is a New York City–based Indian percussionist known for his work in both tabla and pakhawaj. He began studying tabla at the age of five and has trained for many years under Samir Chatterjee, developing a strong foundation in Hindustani rhythmic tradition from an early age.
For over a decade, Tope has also studied with Zakir Hussain, with whom he has had opportunities to perform. This long-term guidance has shaped his approach to accompaniment, solo playing, and improvisation. In addition to tabla, he has pursued pakhawaj training with Mohan Shyam Sharma, as well as guidance from Manik Munde and Pratap Awad, broadening his understanding of North Indian percussion traditions.
Tejas Tope has performed as a soloist and accompanist across the United States, Europe, and India. His concert work includes appearances in classical music programs and cross-disciplinary arts settings. He has toured as part of Zakir Hussain’s “Masters of Percussion” projects and has shared the stage with artists such as Shujaat Khan and Krishna Bhatt.
Early in his career, he received recognition in youth and classical music competitions, reflecting consistent engagement with performance from a young age. Alongside his musical training, Tope studied finance and accounting at NYU's Stern School of Business.
