Biography
Soma Ghosh is an acclaimed Indian Hindustani classical singer, born on 20 April 1962 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. A distinguished exponent of the Banaras Gharana, she received rigorous training under Guru Bageshwari Devi and later earned a Master's degree and PhD in Hindustani Classical Music. Renowned for her mastery of Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Chaiti, Hori, Tappa, and Ghazal, she has played a significant role in preserving and promoting the musical traditions of Banaras. Soma Ghosh shared a close artistic association with the legendary shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan and performed with him in several prestigious concerts. Honored with the Padma Shri in 2016, she is also involved in social and cultural initiatives, serving as a cultural ambassador and founder of the NGO Madhu Murchhana. Her contributions through concerts, recordings, publications, and music education have earned her national recognition and respect in the world of Indian classical music.
