Shailendra Mishra is an Indian tabla artist recognized for his mastery of the Banaras and Farrukhabad gharanas of Hindustani classical music. A top-grade artist of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan, he has established himself as both a distinguished solo performer and an accomplished accompanist. His playing style reflects a synthesis of the rhythmic richness of the Banaras tradition and the refined compositional structures of the Farrukhabad gharana.
Over the course of his career, Mishra has performed with many leading figures of Indian classical music. He has shared the stage with renowned musicians, including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (sarod), Pandit V. G. Jog (violin), Smt. Girija Devi (vocal) and Pandit Rajan–Sajan Mishra (vocal). In addition to traditional classical concerts, he has participated in numerous festivals and cultural events in India and abroad, presenting both solo tabla recitals and accompaniment for vocal and instrumental performances.
Beyond the classical concert platform, Shailendra Mishra has explored collaborations with international musicians and ensembles, engaging with musical traditions such as jazz, gamelan, and Carnatic music. He holds a master's degree in music and has contributed to music education by offering tabla training to students at various levels. He also served as Third Secretary (Culture) with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he worked to promote Indian classical music and cultural exchange internationally.
