Biography

Marthammanahalli Satish Kumar Akash, popularly known as S. Akash, is a Hindustani classical flautist born in 1997 into a Sankethi family deeply connected with music. The son of Sri M. N. Satish Kumar and Smt. Vani Satish and Akash began showing interest in music at the tender age of three and a half. Recognizing his natural inclination, his family placed him under the guidance of the late Pandit Venkatesh Godkindi when he was just four years old. Even at that early stage, although he could not read musical notations, he demonstrated an exceptional ability to absorb and express subtle musical intricacies.

Akash’s early training laid a strong foundation, and his growth soon marked him as a child prodigy. Over the years, he received numerous honors, including the Child Prodigy Award, the Pogo Amazing Kids Award, and the prestigious Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship. His musical journey continued under the tutelage of Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi and Pandit Ronu Majumdar, whose guidance refined his understanding of raga, laya, and expression.

Akash has performed at leading music festivals across India and has represented Indian classical music internationally in countries such as the USA, Germany, and Switzerland. He has collaborated with eminent artists including Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, Ustad Taufiq Qureshi, Shankar Mahadevan, and Kaushiki Chakraborty. Recognized as the “Youngest Flute Maestro” by Insync Music Production, Akash continues to mesmerize audiences with a style that blends innocence, depth, and rare musical sensitivity, carrying the bansuri tradition forward with remarkable promise.
