Biography
Sathyanarayana Raju is a Bengaluru-based Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, widely recognized for his expressive performances and technical precision. Trained in the Pandanallur style under Guru Smt. Narmada of Shakuntala Nrityalaya, Smt. Subhadra Prabhu has also studied Kathak under Dr. Maya Rao and Smt. Chitra Venugopal. His multidisciplinary training has shaped a distinctive artistic voice rooted in tradition while allowing for nuanced interpretation.
He is the founder of “Samskruthi—The Temple of Art,” where he trains students and contributes actively to dance education. An ‘A-top’ graded artist of Doordarshan and Asthana Vidwan of Hariharapura Shreemath, he has performed extensively across India and internationally, including in the UK, USA, Canada, France, Switzerland, the Maldives, and Singapore. His solo productions, such as Rama Katha, have received critical appreciation for their thematic depth and presentation.
Sathyanarayana Raju is regarded as a significant figure in expanding the presence of male dancers in Bharatanatyam. His achievements include the Karnataka Kalashree Award and the Ram Gopal Best Male Dancer Award (2010), among others, such as the Doordarshan Chandana Award and the Kempegowda Award. In 2025–2026, he completed the “Shasthi Varna Chakra” project, marking 60 performances to commemorate his 60th year, further reinforcing his sustained contribution to Indian classical dance.
