Sabir Sultan Khan

Sabir Sultan Khan is a renowned Indian classical musician and sarangi player, known for carrying forward a rich musical legacy. He belongs to one of the most respected lineages in Hindustani classical music and is the son of the legendary sarangi maestro Sultan Khan, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

Sabir Sultan Khan was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India, into a family deeply rooted in music. From an early age, he was surrounded by the sounds of classical ragas and traditional compositions, which naturally influenced his musical journey. He began learning the sarangi at a very young age under the guidance of his father, grandfather Ustad Gulab Khan, and his uncle Ustad Nasir Khan. He is considered a ninth-generation sarangi player, representing the Sikar gharana, a prominent school of Hindustani classical music known for producing many great artists. His great-grandfather, Ustad Azim Khan, was a court musician in Rajasthan, which further highlights the deep historical roots of his musical family. 

Sabir Sultan Khan is widely recognized for his mastery over the sarangi, an instrument known for its complexity and its ability to closely mimic the human voice. His playing style is a refined blend of sur (melody) and laya (rhythm), creating performances that are both technically brilliant and emotionally expressive. 

Over the years, he has performed extensively both in India and internationally. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest artists in Indian music, including Zakir Hussain, Birju Maharaj, and Rashid Khan. He has played sarangi for several Bollywood films such as Jodhaa Akbar, Dangal, Dor, and Sanwariya.
