Rajendra Gangani is a Kathak maestro of Jaipur Gharana, trained by his father. He performs globally, choreographs works like Leele-Varnam, and has won awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Biography

Pandit Rajendra Gangani is one of the foremost exponents of the Jaipur Gharana of Kathak, born into a distinguished family of Kathak dancers and admired worldwide for his technical brilliance and artistic ability, with the help of an inherited strong foundation in the form through the guidance of his legendary father and guru, Pandit Kundan Lal Gangani. 

He has showcased Kathak across major stages in India, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas and is renowned for his mastery of intricate tala, bol-parhant, and powerful footwork. Pt. Gangani’s performances captivate audiences with their clarity, vigour, and expressive nuance. As a choreographer, he has created numerous acclaimed productions and group works. His choreographies, including Maharaas, Raag Vistaar, and Tribandhi, highlight his ability to merge rhythm, movement, narrative, and musicality into a compelling theatrical experience.

He is honoured with major awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Shastriya Nritya Shiromani, and recognition as Best Dancer in China. He continues to perform at prestigious festivals and serve as a respected guru, nurturing the next generation of Kathak dancers and advancing the legacy of the Jaipur Gharana. In February 2024, he choreographed a record-setting performance at Khajuraho, where 1,484 dancers presented a spectacular Kathak ensemble, earning a Guinness World Record and a special award for his contribution.
