Pandit Rajeev Janardan is a well-known Indian sitar player and Hindustani classical musician. He was born in Varanasi (Banaras), Uttar Pradesh, India, into a family with a strong musical tradition. From a young age, he showed great interest in music and began learning the sitar under the guidance of his father and guru, Pandit Ravi Shankar Janardan. His early training in the traditional guru–shishya parampara helped him develop a strong foundation in classical music.
Pandit Rajeev Janardan belongs to the famous Banaras Gharana of sitar playing. His style reflects the rich musical heritage of Varanasi, combining deep knowledge of ragas with intricate rhythmic patterns. He is known for his clear technique, expressive alap, and energetic jhala, which make his performances engaging for audiences.
Over the years, he has performed in many prestigious music festivals and concerts in India and abroad. His performances are appreciated for their traditional purity as well as creativity in improvisation. Through his concerts, he has contributed to promoting Hindustani classical instrumental music, especially the art of sitar playing.
