Smt. Punita Gupta is a sitar player and teacher associated with the Maihar gharana tradition. As a senior disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, her work reflects the performance and teaching lineage of her guru. She has been active in the United Kingdom for over five decades, contributing to the visibility and continuity of Indian classical music.
She is among the early musicians who helped introduce Indian classical music into the British school curriculum, working in schools for more than 25 years and supporting music education initiatives.
Punita Gupta is a long-standing faculty member at The Bhavan, where she teaches sitar and guides students at different levels. Her role at the institution includes both classroom teaching and student performances.
Over the years, she has mentored many learners, including professional musicians such as Ricky Romain. Her contribution is primarily centered on teaching, mentorship, and preservation of the Maihar gharana repertoire.
