Biography
Priya Bangal is an Indian classical dancer specializing in Odissi, currently based in the greater Boston area of Massachusetts, USA. Originally from Pune, a city known for its vibrant cultural and artistic environment, she developed an early interest in Indian classical dance and trained in Bharatanatyam for several years before focusing extensively on Odissi.
She received advanced training in Odissi under Master Artist Shipra Mehrotra in Norfolk, Massachusetts, where she continued to refine her technique and repertoire within the classical Odissi tradition. Her dedication to the art form was recognized when she was awarded the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship by the Massachusetts Cultural Council in 2018, supporting her continued study and performance in Indian classical dance.
As a performer, Priya Bangal has appeared at numerous cultural venues and festivals, including the Boston Center for the Arts, the Harvard ArtsFirst Festival, and the Pune International Dance Festival. In addition to performing, she co-founded Samvād, a Boston-based forum that encourages dialogue and collaboration between Indian classical dancers and musicians. Through her performances and community initiatives, she contributes to the promotion and appreciation of Indian classical dance within the global cultural landscape.
