Pratik Shrivastava

Pratik Shriwastav’s journey with the sarod began when he was just six, under the guidance of his grandfather, Pandit Rabi Chakraborty, whose legacy in the Maihar Gharana is well known. Those early days, learning from family, set the stage for everything that followed. Later, his uncle, Dr Rajeeb Chakraborty, played a big part in shaping his musical path. Over the years, Pratik has been fortunate to learn from maestros like Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, each of whom has helped him find his own voice and depth as an artist. 

What stands out in Pratik’s music is the way he brings together intricate taans, lively rhythmic play, and a beautiful range of tones. Whether you are a long-time listener or new to classical music, there’s something in his playing that draws you in. He started performing on stage quite early and has since played at some of the most respected festivals in India and abroad, including the Swar Samrat Festival in Kolkata and at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. 

Pratik’s love for music goes beyond the classical stage. He has explored contemporary and fusion projects, worked on film scores, and enjoyed experimenting across genres. Along the way, he has collaborated with well-known artists such as Bickram Ghosh, Anoushka Shankar, and A.R. Rahman. More recently, his work with Indo-German pianist Jarry Singla has taken his sarod to jazz and world music audiences around the globe. 

Beyond performing, Pratik is always finding new ways to share Indian classical music with the world. He holds on to the sarod's roots while looking ahead, blending tradition with new ideas. It’s this mix of respect and curiosity that makes him such an inspiring presence in today’s music scene.
