Biography
Prathibha Ramaswamy is an Indian Bharatanatyam dancer, educator, and arts curator recognized for her strong stage presence, expressive abhinaya, and rhythmic precision within the classical dance tradition. She has received the Aryabhata Award for her contributions to the arts and holds an “A” grade accreditation from Doordarshan. Academically, she has pursued a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Bharatanatyam from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, along with a master's degree in Human Development from Bangalore University, reflecting both artistic and academic engagement with the field of performing arts.
Prathibha began her training in Bharatanatyam at the age of five under Smt. Padmini Hariharan and later continued her advanced training under renowned gurus Dr. M. R. Krishnamurthy and Sri Sheejith Krishna. She has further explored aspects of classical dance theory and performance through training with Sri Mavin Khoo, while also studying karanas and Natya Shastra traditions under Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam and Smt. Gayathri Kannan. To deepen her understanding of performance and expression, she underwent specialized training in the Navarasa Sadhana actor training module developed by the Kutiyattam exponent Guru G. Venu.
Alongside her performing career, Prathibha Ramaswamy is actively involved in teaching and arts administration. She previously served as a senior teaching faculty member at Kalakshithi under the guidance of Dr. M. R. Krishnamurthy and later founded the Abhijnaa Arts Foundation, an institution dedicated to training and nurturing young Bharatanatyam dancers. She has also been associated with cultural organizations such as Ananya, contributing to the curation and organization of national-level classical dance festivals. Through her work as a performer, teacher, and curator, she continues to contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Bharatanatyam tradition.
