Pradip Kumar Sarkar, a Banaras gharana tabla artist, is an AIR ‘A’-graded performer, ICCR-empanelled musician, educator, and solo/accompaniment specialist with global performances.

Biography

Pradip Kumar Sarkar is a distinguished tabla artist of the Banaras gharana, recognized for his command over traditional repertoire and performance aesthetics. As an ‘A’ graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has established a presence in both national and international classical music circuits, performing in solo and accompaniment settings.

He trained under Pandit Bhuwan Prakash Srivastav and Lalji Srivastav of Allahabad within the guru-shishya parampara, developing a style rooted in the powerful, open-hand techniques characteristic of the Banaras gharana. His academic grounding includes a master's degree in Tabla, further strengthening his theoretical and practical understanding of rhythm.

In addition to performance, Pradip Kumar Sarkar is actively engaged in teaching and cultural promotion. He serves as president of the organization Swaranjali and is an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), contributing to international cultural exchange. His work as a visiting professor and performer reflects a continued commitment to the dissemination of Hindustani classical music.
