About
Biography
Paromita Mukherjee was born into a culturally inclined family in Kolkata, where her musical abilities became evident at an early age. Her formative years took a significant turn when the legendary violinist Pandit V. G. Jog, after observing her perform, offered to mentor her personally. Under his guidance, she began her formal music education at the age of seven, initially training in harmonium while developing a strong sense of melody and structure.
Subsequently, Paromita Mukherjee transitioned to the violin and continued her musical growth with dedication and discipline. After the passing of V. G. Jog, she pursued further violin training under Amina Parera and Aashish Khan, the daughter and son of the renowned sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, gaining deeper insight into the Maihar tradition and its stylistic nuances. She also studied violin under Amiya Ranjan Banerjee at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, strengthening her academic and practical foundation.
In addition to Hindustani classical training, she expanded her musical scope by learning the Carnatic style of violin playing in Kolkata. This diverse and rigorous training has shaped her approach to the violin, allowing her to draw from multiple classical traditions while maintaining technical clarity and expressive depth.
