Born in Mumbai, he was trained initially by his father, Shri Niranjan Haldipur, and later by Pandit Pannalal Ghosh’s disciples before becoming a senior disciple of Annapurna Devi, under whose guidance his musical approach developed depth and maturity.

He is known for his Dhrupad-ang alap, structured jod and jhala, and rhythmically nuanced drut compositions.
