Nisarg Dehukkar

Nisarg Dehukkar’s journey as a tabla artist reflects focused training, consistent performance experience, and a clear commitment to Indian classical music. Based in Mumbai, he is a disciple of renowned tabla maestro Ustad Fazal Qureshi, under whose guidance he has developed a strong foundation in technique, repertoire, and performance aesthetics. His playing is characterized by clarity of articulation, control over laya, and an ability to respond sensitively within both solo and accompaniment settings.

Alongside his musical training, Nisarg has pursued formal education in engineering and management; however, his professional path has remained firmly anchored in music. His empanelment as an artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has enabled him to represent Indian classical music on international platforms. Through these opportunities, he has received significant global recognition, including Laureateship at Art Parade, Europe (2021), first prize at the Tizziano Rosetti International Music Competition (2022), and a Gold Star Rating in the percussion category at KNS Classical, Spain (2022).

In India, Nisarg has performed at several respected festivals and venues such as the Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Memorial Festival, Thureeyam Sangeetholsavam, Prithvi Theatre, Natarani Theatre, and the Hriday Drishyam Festival in Bhopal. He was also featured as part of Ustad Zakir Hussain’s Adi-Anant Concert Series presented by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai, marking an important milestone in his performing career.

As an accompanist and collaborator, Nisarg has shared the stage with leading Hindustani musicians including Vidushi Devaki Pandit, Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande, Ustad Kamal Sabri, and Dr. Alka Deo Marulkar, as well as prominent artists of the younger generation such as violinist Nandini Shankar and sarangi player Harsh Narayan. His work has been recognised with several honours, including the Akhil Bhartiya Yuva Pratibha Sanman (2017), Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award (2019), and Youth Idol Award (2020). Through sustained practice, performance, and collaboration, Nisarg Dehukkar continues to establish a thoughtful and credible presence in the contemporary tabla landscape.
