Biography

Navia Natarajan Menon is a professionally trained Bharatanatyam artist based in Bangalore. She is widely associated with the Kalakshetra style, noted for its linear geometry, disciplined technique, and restrained aesthetic. Her performances are characterized by technical precision, fluid movement quality, and an engagement with abstract and philosophical themes within a classical framework.

Originally from a Malayali family that settled in Bangalore, Navia demonstrated artistic inclination from an early age and began performing publicly at a young age. She holds a degree from Bangalore University, balancing formal academic education with sustained training in classical dance.

As a performer and choreographer, she remains active on prominent stages. Her recent and notable works include Draupadi—Unbound, a solo production interpreting the epic character through a contemporary lens, presented at the Trinity Arts Festival, Chennai (November 2025), and Ma Kamakhya, inspired by the Kamakhya temple and performed at the NCPA Pravaha Festival (December 2025). In January 2026, she performed at the 19th Dance Festival of the Music Academy Madras, one of the most prestigious platforms for Indian classical dance. Another significant solo work, Virodhabhasa—The Paradox, explores contrasting philosophical ideas through movement.
