Biography
Pandit Nakul Mishra hails from the eminent Banaras Gharana and is recognized as one of the foremost tabla players of his generation. His foundational training began under the guidance of his father, Pandit Nanhu Mishra, who belonged to the lineage of Pandit Kanthe Maharaj, after which he received advanced instruction from Pandit Gopal Mishra. This rigorous grounding shaped his exceptional command over taal, laya, and complex rhythmic structures, marked by clarity, speed, and refined control.
A top-grade artist of All India Radio, Pandit Mishra has performed across the globe and is known for his versatility across solo recitals and accompaniment. He has accompanied leading vocalists, instrumentalists, and dancers in genres including Hindustani classical, thumri, ghazal, bhajan, Gujarati folk music, and Kathak dance. His notable collaborations include performances with Pandit Birju Maharaj, Kumudini Lakhia, and eminent musicians such as Budhaditya Mukherjee, Vishwamohan Bhatt, Rajeev Taranath, Shobha Mudgal, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Shahid Parvez, and others.
Internationally, he has participated in major festivals and cultural exchanges, including the Expression of Man Dance Festival in the USA, SAARC Festival, Saptak Festival, Tansen-related festivals, Sharad Chandrika, and TANARIRI. He has also accompanied the Kadam Dance Academy during performances in Italy and served on panels of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
A revered teacher, Pandit Nakul Mishra, is an empanelled guru of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and has been training students for ABGMV examinations with consistent success. Through personalized instruction and effective online teaching, he continues to impart the Banaras tabla tradition to students across India and abroad.
