Biography

Shree Nagesh Adgaonkar’s musical development reflects a sustained and disciplined engagement with Hindustani classical music from an early age. He began his initial training at seven in Latur under Pt. Vitthalrao Jagtap, where he built a strong foundation in classical vocal music and completed his education up to Sangeet Visharad. This formative phase instilled in him a structured understanding of raga, tala, and voice cultivation.

Seeking deeper aesthetic and stylistic refinement, he pursued advanced training at the Shakhri Begum Memorial Trust Academy under the guidance of Ustad Rashid Khan. Even after completing formal instruction, he continued to study and refine his craft within the SBMT academic environment. His musical growth was further supported during his time at Lalit Kala Academy, where he trained under Dr. Rajendra Kandalgaonkar at Savitribai Phule Pune University, strengthening his technical and interpretative abilities.

A decisive phase of his artistic journey came when he moved to Kolkata for intensive, immersive training directly under Ustad Rashid Khan, absorbing the nuances of the Rampur–Sahaswan gharana in a traditional, performance-oriented setting. This period shaped his mature musical voice, marked by melodic precision, balanced improvisation, and a strong command of classical form.

Nagesh Adgaonkar has performed at numerous respected music platforms across India, including NCPA Mumbai and Bengaluru, West Bengal State Music Academy, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Delhi, Lalit Kala Academy centres, and major festivals in Pune, Nagpur, Indore, Siliguri, Agartala, and Bhilai. His achievements include first prizes from All India Radio and Yuvak Mahotsav Nashik, the Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Award, Pt. D. V. Paluskar Puraskar, and a Ministry of Culture scholarship. Alongside classical concerts, he has also contributed as a playback singer for Marathi films, reflecting a versatile yet tradition-rooted musical career.
