Mazha S Muhammed

Mazha S Muhammed is a Hindustani classical vocalist whose work spans ghazal, thumri, and related semi-classical genres. She was introduced to Hindustani music by Shri Nalin Moolji in Calicut, Kerala, who later encouraged her to pursue advanced classical training. At the age of sixteen, she began formal vocal instruction under Pt. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar, a noted exponent of the Kirana Gharana, continued her training for over a decade under Shri Omkarnath Havaldar. Her engagement with thumri developed further under the guidance of Vid. Ruchira Kedar, a disciple of Vidushi Girija Devi.

Mazha’s ghazal performances have been presented across Kerala and featured at recognized platforms such as the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Book Festival and Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi Music Festival, and broadcast on programs including an Eid special on Media One. Alongside her performance, she is engaged in academic research and is pursuing doctoral studies at Christ University, Bangalore, with a focus on thumri. She is a recipient of the Commonwealth Split-site Fellowship 2024 and is currently working with Prof. Martin Clayton at the Department of Music, Durham University, UK.
