Manhar Udhas

Manhar Udhas, born in 1943 in Savarkundla, Gujarat, emerged as a significant playback singer in Indian cinema through a combination of perseverance, musical instinct, and timely opportunity. Coming from a musically inclined family, he is the elder brother of ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas and singer Nirmal Udhas. Although academically trained in mechanical engineering, his deep interest in music led him to move to Mumbai, where he gradually found entry into the film industry through professional associations and studio work.

A defining moment in his career came when he recorded a song originally intended as a temporary track, which was later retained due to its quality and public response. This success opened doors to regular playback assignments, and Manhar Udhas went on to lend his voice to leading actors and composers of Hindi cinema. His songs often combined melodic strength with emotional restraint, making them suitable for romantic, devotional, and narrative-driven compositions.

Beyond film playback, Manhar Udhas developed a strong identity as a ghazal and album artist.
