Biography
Jayashree Acharya is a Kathak dancer, choreographer, and teacher of the Lucknow Gharana. A disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj, she is known for her layakari, precise footwork, and abhinaya. Her work includes both traditional Kathak repertory and thematic productions. Noted choreographies include Quest: The Journey of Untold Stories, which brings together classical and contemporary elements; Talaash-e-Haq (2017), recognized for its concept and presentation; and Baroque meets Kathak, exploring Kathak with Western classical music by Vivaldi. She has also choreographed parans in Teentaal and thumri-based pieces such as Sab Ban Than Aayi.
She is the founder of Rasik Performing Arts in Gurgaon, where she promotes classical arts through training, workshops, and performances. She has performed and taught in the UK and Europe and has served as a senior guru at Kathak Kendra. Her work spans performance, choreography, and teaching in Kathak.
