Biography
Jayanta Sarkar is a Hindustani classical tabla player and teacher, recognized as a senior disciple of Pandit Arup Chattopadhyay. Active in the Indian classical music circuit, he is known for his role as an accompanist in vocal and instrumental concerts, contributing to the rhythmic framework of performances.
He has accompanied artists such as Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Shounak Roy, and sarodist Ranajit Sengupta and has performed at national and international venues, including SPIC MACAY events and concerts in India and abroad. In addition to accompaniment, he presents tabla solo recitals and collaborative performances, reflecting his grounding in traditional repertoire and improvisation.
Alongside performance, Jayanta Sarkar is actively engaged in teaching, following the Guru-Shishya parampara. His work as a mentor and educator supports the transmission of tabla techniques and knowledge to the next generation of musicians within the Hindustani classical music tradition.
