Biography
Irshad Khan (born c. 1963) is an Indian classical sitar and surbahar artist associated with the Imdadkhani (Etawah) Gharana. Based in Mississauga, Canada, he represents a lineage linked to Imrat Khan and Vilayat Khan.
A child prodigy, he gave his first public performance at the age of seven and made his international debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, at 13. At 18, he performed as a soloist at the Indian All Night Concert at the Proms.
His performance style reflects elements of both gayaki ang (vocal style) and tantra ang (instrumental approach), focusing on raga development and tonal expression. He has performed across multiple countries, including North America, Europe, Russia, and Asia.
Irshad Khan is also the founder of the Universal Academy for Musicians, with centers in Mississauga and Mumbai, where he conducts workshops, lectures, and training in Indian classical music.
