Biography
Indu Nagaraj is an Indian playback singer associated primarily with the Kannada film industry, with a repertoire that spans film music and Carnatic influences. Based in Mysore, she has been active in the music industry since 2007 and has contributed to numerous film soundtracks across Kannada and other South Indian languages.
She is widely recognized as part of the “Chilkunda Sisters," a musical duo formed with her sister Lakshmi Nataraj, known for their classical grounding and collaborative performances rooted in Carnatic and devotional traditions.
Indu gained significant recognition with the song “Pyarge Aagbittaite” from the film Govindaya Namaha (2012), for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, along with other industry recognitions. Over the years, she has collaborated with noted composers such as Gurukiran, Arjun Janya, and V. Harikrishna.
Her discography includes songs from films like Bachchan, Brindavana, Kirik Party, Doddmane Hudga, and Tarak, among others. In 2016, she received the SIIMA Award for Best Female Singer for her performance in Doddmane Hudga. Her work reflects a blend of contemporary playback singing with a grounding in classical music traditions.
In addition to her film career, Indu Nagaraj has also appeared on television, including her role as a mentor on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Championship (2021–2022), contributing to music education and talent development.
She continues to remain active in the playback and live performance circuits, maintaining a steady presence in the South Indian music landscape.
