Hemant Joshi

Hemant V. Joshi’s engagement with music reflects an early and sustained immersion in the tradition of Indian classical tabla. Born into a music-oriented family, he showed an unusual inclination toward rhythm from infancy and began structured tabla training at the age of two under Shri Satish Hegade in Goa. This formative phase helped develop his coordination, sense of taal, and natural responsiveness to rhythm at a very young age.

Currently, Hemant continues his advanced training under Shri Shrivatsa Koulgi in Hubli, a senior disciple of Pandit Ravindra Yavagal of Bengaluru. Under this guidance, his playing has matured in terms of clarity, endurance, and rhythmic discipline. One of his notable abilities is performing tabla with lehara for up to an hour without interruption, demonstrating both technical control and physical stamina—qualities rarely seen at such an early stage of learning.

Hemant has performed close to one hundred concerts across cities, including Goa, Hubli, Bellary, Bijapur, Panaji, Koppal, Dharwad, and Uttara Kannada. His first public performance took place at the age of two in Goa, followed by appearances on several respected cultural platforms. He has performed at Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubli, Dharwad Srujana Rangamandir, and on the main stage of Dharwad Utsav, organized by the Government of Karnataka’s Department of Art and Culture. His participation in events such as Radio Utsav by All India Radio Dharwad, Bala Sangeet Sammelan in Shiroda, and Supa Utsav further highlights his early exposure to prestigious forums.

In recognition of his promise, Hemant was felicitated with the title of “Child Prodigy” by Murugha Math Swamiji, Chitradurga, and has received acknowledgements from cultural institutions and district authorities. His performances have been covered by leading regional newspapers, reflecting the attention his work has drawn within the classical music community.

Alongside his musical pursuits, Hemant continues his formal education, balancing academic life with disciplined practice and performance. His journey so far reflects a blend of early training, consistent mentorship, and growing stage experience, positioning him as a promising young tabla practitioner within the Indian classical tradition.
