Guruprasad Hegde

Guruprasad Hegde is recognized as one of India’s respected harmonium accompanists, contributing to the evolving landscape of Hindustani classical performance. After formal studies in music, he received his foundational training from the renowned harmonium maestro Pandit Tulsidas Borkar, whose guidance shaped his approach to tonality, melodic depth, and sensitive accompaniment. His pursuit of versatility led him to study sarangi under Padma Vibhushan Pandit Ram Narayan, enabling a deeper understanding of vocal nuances and instrumental expression.

Over the years, Guruprasad has been featured on leading broadcast platforms, particularly as a graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has been awarded a Central Government scholarship for harmonium, recognizing his promise at an early stage of his career.

He has performed at several major Indian classical music festivals, including Dover Lane, Tansen Samaroh, Malhar Festival at Nehru Centre Mumbai, and St. Xavier’s Jan Fest. His international engagements extend to performances in Kathmandu and the United States, building his presence across global concert circuits.

Guruprasad’s collaborations reflect his standing within the musical fraternity. He has accompanied distinguished artistes such as Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Ramashray Jha, Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Vidushi Prabha Atre, Vidushi Shubha Mudgal, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan, and Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, among many others. His playing is noted for clarity, thoughtful improvisation, and a supportive approach that enhances the vocalist’s artistry.
