Debojyoti Bose

Pandit Debojyoti Bose (born December 20, 1962, in Kolkata) is a distinguished Indian classical musician, widely respected for his mastery of the sarod, as well as his contributions as a composer and performer in the field of Hindustani classical music. He belongs to a prestigious lineage of musicians and represents the fourth generation of a deeply rooted musical family.

Bose was born into an environment rich in musical tradition. His father, Pandit Biswanath Bose, was a noted tabla exponent, while his mother, Bharati Bose, was an accomplished sitarist. Growing up in such an atmosphere, he was naturally inclined toward music from an early age. His initial training began at home under the guidance of his mother and elder brother, Pandit Kumar Bose, who himself went on to become one of the leading tabla players of India.

Seeking deeper knowledge and refinement, Debojyoti Bose later became a devoted disciple of the legendary sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Under his mentorship for more than 25 years, Bose absorbed not only the technical brilliance of the instrument but also the aesthetic depth and emotional expression that define the Senia Bangash gharana. He is especially known for presenting and preserving his guru’s compositions, thereby carrying forward a rich musical legacy.

As a performer, Pandit Debojyoti Bose has earned recognition as a top-graded artist of All India Radio, which is a mark of excellence in Indian classical music. His performances are characterized by clarity, intricate improvisation, and a deep understanding of raga structure. Over the years, he has performed at several prestigious platforms in India and abroad, including appearances at renowned events such as the Darbar Festival, where he has captivated audiences with his expressive playing.
