Aswini Srinivasan

Aswini Srinivasan is an Indian Mridangam and multi-percussion artist from Chennai, widely recognized for her contributions to Carnatic music. Performing in a field traditionally dominated by men, she has established herself as one of the prominent women percussionists of her generation. Her performances combine classical discipline with rhythmic experimentation, earning her recognition among audiences and fellow musicians.

Over the course of her career, Aswini has accompanied several senior Carnatic musicians and has performed at leading cultural venues and festivals, including the Madras Music Academy. She has also contributed to cinema, notably playing the mridangam for the critically acclaimed musical film Sarvam Thaala Mayam. In addition to concert performances, she frequently collaborates with her sister, Veena artist Anjani Srinivasan, presenting duet performances that explore rhythmic and melodic dialogue within the Carnatic tradition.

Alongside her performance career, Aswini maintains an active digital presence where she shares percussion demonstrations and experimental rhythm videos, including the popular “Beat the Heat” series. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Madras and began her musical training at an early age. Her contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Child Prodigy Award (2009) from the Rotary Club, the Pogo Amazing Child title (2011), and the Bhavan’s Cultural Award (2014) presented by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, along with honorific titles such as Sangeetha Bhaktha Shiromani and Laya Ganga.
