Ankur Mishra is a Banaras Gharana sitar artist trained under Pt. Birendra Nath Mishra. An A Grade AIR artist, he holds a PhD in Sitar from BHU and performs across Indian classical music platforms.

Biography

Ankur Mishra is a sitar artist associated with the Banaras Gharana, born into a lineage of musicians connected to figures such as Pt. Dargahi ji Mishra, Pt. Vikramaditya Mishra, and Pt. Ramayan Mishra. The family’s musical legacy is linked with noted artists including Girija Devi and Pt. Samta Prasad.

He began his early training in vocal music under Pt. Jalpa Prasad Mishra at the age of six and later specialised in sitar under his grandfather, Pt. Surendra Mohan Mishra, and his father, Pt. Birendra Nath Mishra. He started performing at the age of 13.

Ankur Mishra holds a Master’s degree (Gold Medal) and a Doctorate in Instrumental Music (Sitar) from Banaras Hindu University. He is recognised as an A Grade artist of All India Radio. He has also served as a sitar faculty at Pt. Kartik Kumar Foundation, Mumbai, and has worked on background scores for theatre productions.
