Biography
Dr. Anjana Bhushan is an Indian Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher recognized for her expressive abhinaya (facial expression and storytelling) and strong rhythmic command in classical dance performance. Based in Mysore and Bengaluru, she has developed a reputation as a performer and educator dedicated to the preservation and presentation of Bharatanatyam within traditional and contemporary contexts.
She serves as a co-director of the Bhushans’ Academy of Performing Arts & Visual Presentation, alongside her husband and guru, Badari Divya Bhushan. Through the academy, she has contributed to the training of a large number of students and has been involved in organizing dance productions, arangetrams, and classical dance festivals. One of her most notable stage portrayals is the role of Seeta in the production Ramabhyudayam, which has reportedly been performed more than 400 times internationally. She has also appeared in productions such as Ramanuja Dhanurdasa Vaibhavam and Paschimavahini Krishna.
Dr. Anjana Bhushan’s artistic approach often combines traditional Bharatanatyam technique with elements of yoga and thematic storytelling, creating performances that highlight both physical precision and emotional depth. She is also involved in movement therapy initiatives, using classical dance as a medium for personal development and engagement with individuals with special needs. Her contributions to the arts have been recognized with several honors, including Nruthya Chandrika (UNESCO), Kala Rathna, Stree Rathna, Nruthya Choodamani, and Natya Bhairavi.
