Amit Kavthekar

Amit Kavthekar (born 11 August 1984) is a distinguished Indian tabla player and a leading artist in Hindustani classical music. Regarded as a child prodigy, he became the final ganda-bandhan (ordained) disciple of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha and a prominent student of Ustad Zakir Hussain. His playing style is rooted in the Punjab baaj, with significant influences from the Delhi baaj and Zakir Hussain. A versatile musician, Kavthekar has collaborated across genres, including jazz and fusion, and has performed globally with maestros like Amjad Ali Khan. He is currently based in Boston, where he teaches at the New England School of Music and Salem State University.
