Shreeram Lagoo Rang-avkash

Shreeram Lagoo Rang-Avakash was created as a space where theater can move beyond fixed formats. Established in 2024 by the Maharashtra Cultural Centre, the venue honors the legacy of Dr. Shreeram Lagoo while opening doors for contemporary experimentation. Unlike traditional theaters, it functions as a black box space, free from rigid stage-audience divisions.

The design allows for flexible seating and changing spatial arrangements. Performers can reshape the room for each production, enabling immersive setups, interactive installations, and unconventional stage layouts. This freedom encourages artists to explore form, movement, and narrative without architectural limits. The aim is to dissolve the distance between performer and audience and to support work that challenges established methods.

Located in the Udyog Bhavan building at Hirabaug Chowk, Shukrawar Peth, the venue also carries memory and heritage. Outside the performance area, visitors can view major awards won by Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, connecting present practice with a historic theatrical journey.

The space is fully air-conditioned and equipped with modern sound and lighting systems. Seating is well arranged to maintain intimacy, and the venue provides wheelchair access and on-site parking. Inaugurated by Naseeruddin Shah and Mohan Agashe, Shreeram Lagoo Rang-Avakash stands as a living laboratory for Indian theatre, where tradition meets experimentation and new performance language can take shape.
