The Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House Mumbai is India’s only recognized surviving opera house and one of Mumbai’s most significant heritage performance venues. Conceived in 1908 and inaugurated in 1911 during the visit of King George V, the Baroque-style building blends European and Indian architectural elements. Over more than a century, it has functioned as an opera venue, theater, and cinema hall before closing in the 1990s and later undergoing a major restoration. Reopened in 2016, it remains an important landmark in Mumbai’s cultural landscape.
