Raja Ram Pal Singh Park

Raja Ram Pal Singh Park stands in the historic quarter of Qaiserbagh, near the Baradari, and forms part of Lucknow’s layered urban and cultural landscape. The park is named after Raja Rampal Singh, a freedom fighter, and was created as a public space where history, leisure, and civic life could meet. Over time, it became a familiar green refuge within a densely built area of the city.

In its earlier form, the park included a small Baradari, fountains, a water body, and play areas for children. These features made it a functional and welcoming space for families, walkers, and residents. A major renovation was carried out in 2004 to restore its structures and amenities. However, in the years that followed, regular maintenance declined. By early 2023, the park showed visible signs of neglect, with crumbling buildings, missing lighting, and a dried, non-functional water body.

Despite these challenges, the park continues to hold cultural value. It serves as one of the important locations for the Mahindra Sanatkada Lucknow Literature Festival. During the festival, the Amrit Lal Nagar Takht within the park becomes a central stage for literary discussions, readings, and performances. This association has given the space a renewed public role, connecting it to contemporary cultural life while remaining rooted in the city’s history.

The responsibility for maintaining Raja Ram Pal Singh Park rests with the Lucknow Development Authority. Its future depends on sustained care and restoration that can balance its historical character with the needs of present-day users. As both a memorial space and a cultural venue, the park remains a significant part of Lucknow’s public and literary landscape.
