Bommayapalayam

Bommayapalayam is a coastal village in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. The village lies approximately 15 kilometers north of Puducherry and 10 kilometers south of Auroville. Bommayapalayam spans an area of about 5 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 5,000 residents. The region features sandy beaches, casuarina plantations, and fishing communities. Agriculture and fishing form the primary economic activities in the area.

The Indian Classical Network, an online platform dedicated to Indian classical music, has associated Bommayapalayam with recordings and performances of Carnatic music. The village has hosted informal gatherings and small-scale concerts featuring Carnatic vocalists and instrumentalists. These events often occur in private residences or community spaces rather than formal venues. The network has documented performances by artists such as T.M. Krishna, R.K. Shriramkumar, and S. In 2018, the Indian Classical Network released a live recording titled "Carnatic Evening in Bommayapalayam." The performance featured vocalist R.K. Shriramkumar accompanied by mridangam artist N. Manoj Siva. The recording includes renditions of Tyagaraja kritis such as "Nagumomu" in Abhogi raga and "Endaro Mahanubhavulu" in Sri raga.
