Alpharetta

Alpharetta is a city in northern Fulton County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, the population reached 65,818, marking a 34% increase from 2010. The city lies approximately 26 miles north of downtown Atlanta and forms part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Incorporated in 1858, Alpharetta originated as a rural trading post along the Cherokee Turnpike. The name derives from a Native American term translated as \"flowing waters\" or \"the place of the alfalfa,\" though the exact etymology remains debated.

The city’s economy transitioned from agriculture to technology and corporate development in the late 20th century. Major employers include technology firms, financial services companies, and healthcare providers. Alpharetta hosts the headquarters of Verint Systems, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, and regional offices for Microsoft and Home Depot. The Alpharetta Technology Commission, established in 2003, promotes innovation and business growth in the sector.

Cultural institutions in Alpharetta include the Alpharetta Arts Center, opened in 2018, which offers exhibitions, workshops, and public art programs.
