About Udupa Foundation
Founded in 2015 by internationally acclaimed Ghatam maestro Giridhar Udupa and co-founder Sandhya Udupa, Udupa Foundation is a charitable trust committed to preserving and promoting India’s rich performing arts traditions. Inspired by the educational legacy of Vidwan Ullur Nagendra Udupa, the foundation supports music education, artist development, scholarships, cultural outreach, and innovative performance initiatives. Through programs such as the Udupa Music Festival, Carnatic Collective, rural outreach concerts, masterclasses, and collaborations with national and international artists, the foundation creates opportunities for learning, performance, and cultural exchange. Its activities aim to make music and the arts accessible to wider audiences while nurturing future generations of performers and rasikas.
History
The Udupa Foundation was established in Bengaluru in 2015 by Giridhar Udupa to carry forward the artistic vision and educational values of his father, renowned mridangam exponent Vidwan Ullur Nagendra Udupa. Building on a family legacy deeply rooted in Carnatic music and arts education, the foundation was created to preserve traditional knowledge while expanding access to music for contemporary audiences.
