About Namdhari Sikh Sangat

Namdhari Sikh Sangat (Regd) functions as the legal and administrative body of the Namdhari sect. Its registered office is located at Sri Bhaini Sahib, Ludhiana, the historical centre of the Namdhari movement. The society operates in accordance with the teachings and legacy of the Namdhari spiritual lineage.

The Namdhari movement was initiated by Satguru Ram Singh Ji in 1857 at Sri Bhaini Sahib. The Namdharis, also known as Kukas, played a significant role in India’s freedom movement, advocating principles such as non-cooperation, Swadeshi, and boycott decades before these ideas became nationally prominent. The movement combined spiritual discipline with social reform, issuing directives against social practices such as caste discrimination, child marriage, dowry, intoxication, and exploitation.

Following the exile of Satguru Ram Singh Ji by the British in 1872, leadership passed successively through Satguru Hari Singh Ji, Satguru Partap Singh Ji, and later Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. After 2012, spiritual leadership was entrusted to His Holiness Sri Satguru Uday Singh Ji, who serves as Chief Patron of Namdhari Sikh Sangat (Regd).

The society operates welfare initiatives, including an old age home, charitable educational institutions, and a 24-hour free community kitchen (Langar) at Sri Bhaini Sahib. It also facilitates medical care for underprivileged individuals, provides financial assistance to those in need, and conducts Paaths, Havaans, and Varnis for peace and harmony. Namdhari Sikh Sangat (Regd) is registered under the Income Tax Act, 1961, and donations to the society are eligible for tax deduction under Section 80G.
