About Kala Academy Goa

Kala Academy Goa is the premier state-funded cultural institution established by the Government of Goa in 1970 to preserve, promote, and develop music, dance, drama, literature, folk traditions, visual arts, and theatre. Located on the banks of the Mandovi River in Panaji, the academy organises festivals, workshops, exhibitions, competitions, seminars, concerts, Tiatr performances, and educational programs across multiple art disciplines. The institution also provides formal artistic training through dedicated faculties and serves as a major cultural hub for classical, folk, contemporary, and experimental arts in Goa.

History

Kala Academy, Goa, was established on 28 February 1970 by the Government of Goa under the Registration of Societies Act as the state’s apex cultural body. Designed to strengthen Goa’s artistic identity after liberation, the institution evolved into one of India’s major cultural centres through its festivals, training programs, theatre spaces, exhibitions, and preservation of traditional Goan and Indian art forms.
