About Darbar Arts Culture Heritage Trust
Darbar Arts Culture Heritage Trust is a leading arts organisation committed to presenting and promoting Indian classical music and dance to diverse audiences across the United Kingdom and internationally. Through large-scale festivals, curated concerts, educational programmes, artist development projects, and digital initiatives, the organisation creates meaningful opportunities for audiences to engage with the traditions of Hindustani and Carnatic performing arts. Its activities support both established maestros and emerging talent while encouraging cultural exchange, artistic learning, and wider public appreciation of South Asian classical heritage. The organisation also develops accessible learning resources, outreach programmes, and performance platforms that help strengthen the visibility and sustainability of Indian classical arts in contemporary cultural spaces.
History
The origins of Darbar Arts Culture Heritage Trust can be traced to a memorial concert organised in honour of respected tabla teacher Bhai Gurmit Singh Virdee. The overwhelming response to this event inspired the creation of an annual cultural platform dedicated to Indian classical arts. To support this growing vision, the trust was formally established as a registered charity in 2007. Since then, it has developed into an internationally recognised organisation, presenting major cultural programmes, expanding educational opportunities, and building a global network of artists, students, scholars, and music enthusiasts connected through a shared appreciation of Indian classical traditions.
