Raga: Jhinjhoti (Gat in Vilambit & Drut Teental)

Excellence on the Sitar is a studio album featuring North Indian classical music performed on the sitar. The label Aimrec released the recording on CD on May 19, 1992.

The album includes a 28-minute-16-second composition in Raga Jhinjhoti as its second track. Sitarist Shujaat Husain Khan performs the gat in both vilambit (slow) and drut (fast) sections of Teental, a 16-beat rhythmic cycle. Enayet Hossain accompanies on tabla. The track structure follows the traditional alaap-jor-jhala progression into the composed gat, though specific improvisational or compositional details remain undocumented in available sources.

Shujaat Husain Khan belongs to the Imdadkhani gharana, known for its gayaki ang (vocal-style) sitar technique. Enayet Hossain represents the Farrukhabad gharana of tabla playing. The collaboration marks one of several recordings where Khan paired with tabla artists outside his frequent partnership with Anindo Chatterjee.
