Kankar Mar Jagae

Bade Ghulam Ali Khan released Padma Bhooshan Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan in 1968 under the Odeon label. The album appeared as a 12\" vinyl LP and featured classical khyal performances by the artist. The recording captured Khan’s Patiala gharana style, characterized by intricate taans, gamaks and emotive phrasing.

The opening track Kankar Mar Jagae occupied side A1 of the vinyl. The composition adhered to a traditional khyal structure, with Khan’s vocal delivery emphasizing rhythmic precision and melodic ornamentation. The album title referenced Khan’s 1962 receipt of the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, though the recording itself postdated the honor by six years.
