About Rise and Shine
Rise and Shine is a studio album released in 2014 by a collaborative ensemble featuring saxophonist Matt Renzi, bassist David Ambrosio, drummer Russ Meissner, trumpeter Ralph Alessi, mridangam artist Bala Skandan and ghatam player Giridhar Udupa. The label Three P’s Records issued the recording on CD format.
The album emerged from a cross-cultural improvisational project that integrated elements of jazz and Carnatic music. The ensemble recorded eight original compositions at an unspecified studio location. The release event coincided with the album’s public availability in 2014.
The tracklist includes Noasis, Rise and Shine, Wall Tune, SP, Tha Thom, Number Two, Animals, Come Forth and Vetro. The compositions feature collective improvisation with Renzi and Alessi handling melodic roles, Ambrosio and Meissner anchoring the rhythmic foundation and Skandan and Udupa contributing Carnatic percussion textures. Specific compositional credits remain undocumented in available sources.
The album’s production details, including recording engineer, mixer and mastering personnel, are not publicly confirmed. Three P’s Records distributed the physical CD release without additional digital or vinyl formats noted at the time of publication.
