About Pancharatna Krithis
Pancharatna Krithis is a 1997 studio album by Carnatic flautist Dr. N. Ramani. The Master Recording Company released the album on CD in 1997. The recording features six compositions attributed to the 15th-century composer Sri Tyagaraja, collectively known as the Pancharatna Krithis (Five Gems).
The album opens with Chetulaara in the raga Bhairavi set to Adi tala. The second track, Jagadanandakaraka, employs the raga Nattai in the same tala. Dudukugala follows in Gowlai raga, maintaining the Adi rhythmic cycle. The fourth composition, Sadhinchane, uses Arabhi raga. Kanakanaruchira appears fifth in Varali raga, while the album concludes with Endaro Mahanubhavulu in Sri raga, all adhering to Adi tala.
The performances capture Ramani’s interpretation of Tyagaraja’s works, emphasizing melodic phrasing and rhythmic precision.
