Biography
Vivek Mishra is a Hindustani classical tabla artist from the Banaras gharana, known for his expressive accompaniment and strong command over rhythm. He comes from a distinguished musical background connected to a noted sarangi lineage, which has shaped his musical sensitivity and understanding of melodic accompaniment.
Vivek Mishra initially trained under the legendary Pandit Samta Prasad. After his guru’s passing, he continued his taleem under his father, Pt. Bhola Nath Mishra, and his uncle, Pt. Kishor Kumar, ensuring continuity in the traditional guru-shishya learning system.
As an educator, Vivek Mishra serves as a tabla faculty member at Arambh Kathak Pathshala and has also conducted classes at the Nalanda Dance Research Centre in Mumbai. He is closely associated with the Mumbai-based studio Spring of Rhythm, where he provides both instruction and performance accompaniment.
Vivek Mishra regularly collaborates with classical dancers and vocalists, performing at cultural venues and festivals across India and internationally, including appearances in Israel. His work includes studio recordings with music directors and presentations of complex rhythmic cycles such as Taal Basant (9 matras). Through teaching, accompaniment, and performance, Vivek Mishra continues to contribute to the Banaras tabla tradition in contemporary concert settings.
