Biography
Vandana Srinivasan is a Chennai-based Indian singer known for her work in film playback singing as well as her presence in non-film classical and semi-classical music. She began her musical training in Carnatic classical music at a young age under her guru, Smt. Seetha Krishnan continued this training through her school years.
In 2006, she moved to Chennai to pursue higher education in psychology at Women’s Christian College (University of Madras). During this period, she trained in Hindustani classical music under Smt. Tanushree Saha. In 2009, she relocated to London to complete a postgraduate degree in organizational and social psychology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where she was exposed to diverse musical traditions, including Bangla music.
After returning to Chennai in 2011, Vandana established herself as an independent singer and playback artist. She continues to study Hindustani classical music under Sri Koushik Aithal in Bengaluru. She is married to Anand Pattathil and is based in Chennai.
Vandana Srinivasan has sung for numerous Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films, collaborating with leading composers such as G. V. Prakash Kumar, D. Imman, N. R. Raghunanthan, Leon James, and others. Alongside playback singing, she actively performs ghazals, Sufi music, devotional compositions, and semi-classical repertoire in Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Malayalam, Tamil, and other Indian languages.
She was a Fellow at INK Talks (2013) held in Kochi and delivered a TEDx talk in 2017 on the life of a musician. Together with Anand Pattathil, she co-founded The Madras Mehfil Collective (also known as Mehfil aur Mulaqaat) under Musicalorie Productions. The collective curates immersive music experiences centred on ghazals, Sufi, devotional, semi-classical, timeless film classics, and retro compositions, presented in an intimate mehfil format.
