Biography
Utpal Ghoshal is an Indian classical percussionist specializing in tabla, based in Delhi, with over two decades of experience as both a performer and educator. Trained under the guidance of Pankaj Chatterjee and Sabir Khan of the Farrukhabad Gharana, his playing reflects a strong grounding in traditional tabla repertoire combined with performance versatility across concert settings.
As an accompanist, Ghoshal has collaborated with a range of artists in the Hindustani classical circuit, including sitarist Chandrachur Bhattacharjee and Kathak maestro Birju Maharaj. His performance career extends to both national and international stages, with appearances in cities such as Dubai and Chicago. He remains active in Delhi’s music scene, participating in concerts and cultural events.
In addition to performance, Utpal Ghoshal is a dedicated teacher, offering tabla instruction to students of varying levels. Based in Mehrauli, he conducts regular classes, sharing his knowledge of traditional techniques and repertoire. Through his dual role as performer and educator, he continues to contribute to the transmission and practice of Hindustani classical percussion.
